ABOUT
Lata Vinod is a talented singer who started learning Hindustani Vocal Classical music under her first guru, and mother Mrs. Sanjivani Phadke, at age 5. While studying the heart of classical music, Lata also showed the interest and talent in rendering the ‘Sugam Sangeet.’ She first caught people’s attention when she sang in a talent show in Mumbai.
Lata started her music career since age of 10 as a ‘All India Radio artist’ where she sang in the children’s program called ‘Gammat Jammat’. Later Lata performed in a variety of school programs and won several awards in ‘Bhav Geet and Natya Geet’ in Mumbai and Thane. She started giving solo concerts at age 14 when she sang at her grand father’s physician association in Khopoli.
Lata obtained her BA degree in ‘Hindustani Vocal Classical Music’ from S.N.D.T., Mumbai where she studied under the teaching of late Srimati Sarla Bhide.
After completing her BA in music, Lata moved to USA with her husband and gave her first performance on the Public Television Channel from Atlanta, GA. Then Dr. Vivek Khadilkar, who is a very well known vocal classical singer and teacher from Philadelphia area, taught her.
Lata took part in the couple of “Paschima” sponsored music programs with Dr. Khadilkar. She has given solo concerts within India and the U.S., including Mumbai, Pune, Texas, Georgia, Tennessee, Delaware, New Jersey, and New York.
Lata has performed in the 2003 “BMM” Marathi Adhiveshan that took place in New York’s famous Madison Square Garden Arena. She has also given solo concerts for the ‘New York Marathi Mandal’ twice since 2003. Her music concerts has expanded into different genres of Indian music such as folk, Marathi and Hindi film music, Bhav geet, Bhakti geet, and Natya geet. The inclusion of film music has proven to be very popular with Lata’s audiences.
Besides singing, Lata also has proven her skills in writing ‘Marathi’ poems, bhajans, and composed classical drut bandishes. She has composed a couple of her own bhajans and written the narration for her own concerts.
While performing, writing the poems, and taking care of her two children, Lata pursued her BS degree in ‘Computer Information Systems’ and later completed her MBA in general Business Administration.
Lata currently works as a ‘Market Research Analyst/ Consultant’ at a private company in Pennsylvania.
Lata’s hobbies include vocal music, literature, dance and drama.
